On October 6-8, the middle schoolers from the Church of the Good Samaritan joined more than 500 people from 20 plus area churches for this year’s Breakaway Retreat.
It was a fantastic weekend! The worship band was incredible. The speaker – a pastor who was born in Jamaica and now works in Belize – was engaging and challenging. The small group times were wonderful. And - not surprisingly – the free time was an absolute blast! We zipped down zip lines, kayaked in the Chesapeake Bay (and had a seaweed fight) played in the gym, and went on the giant swing! We enjoyed the snack bar with ice cream and milkshakes.
Best of all, we got to know each other better. We grew closer with one another and with Christ. Every year this is a highlight on the middle school calendar – And for good reason! This year, when the speaker invited people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, many students stood up and said yes! (Including many students from Good Sam!) And whether it was the first time commitment or a recommitment, it was a step toward our loving Heavenly Father and acknowledgeIng His call to “come home.“
From Annie Defina who came as a Student Leader: “I feel like breakaway is an amazing retreat for middle schoolers. It’s a great opportunity for them to explore their faith and build connections within the youth group. As a high schooler I love being there to get to know them and be able to guide them and connect with them.”
