Eastern Update

The semester kicked off with a week in the Adirondacks with a group of Eastern's Templeton Honors College incoming freshman, student leaders, and faculty. I was a student on this trip while I was at Eastern, and it's a gift and privilege to be a part of students' first week of college life. We spent the week camping on beautiful Forked Lake near Lake Placid, NY. It was a week full of silliness, deep conversation, talks about fears regarding this transition into college, prayer, good food, and community building as these students learn how to more deeply engage in meaningful conversation and serve one another as the body of Christ. Would you pray that God would be with these students as they are in their second week of classes and beginning to feel the weight of responsibilities and homesickness?

Family Dinner kicked off September 5; we have welcomed many new faces to our weekly community, including two new teammates for me! It's been a joy to have Dan and Derek on board this year. This semester, student leaders will lead us through the video series “For the Life of the World,” which seeks to answer the question "What is our salvation for?" Would you pray that new students feel welcomed and loved in this community and that all students grow in knowledge of their own belovedness and in the love of Jesus this semester?

After sensing a need amongst students that intersects with a passion of mine, this month I am kicking off a year-long Women's Empowerment Project with ten female students. We will learn more fully what it means to grow into our giftings and calls, respond to opposition in love, and more deeply follow in the way of Jesus together. We met for the first time at the end of September. I'm thrilled and privileged to participate in God's work in these students’ lives, and feel the weight of this endeavor, trusting God to provide all that we need. Would you pray for the students and me as we prepare for this journey together?
