The Great Commission: Local Churches Unite

After last fall’s “The Great Co-Mission” conference (organized by Paoli Presbyterian and Good Samaritan), it became obvious to many from the twenty-plus churches participating that if there is one area where diverse congregations are of similar mind, it is in missions and outreach. Coordinated by Tom Infield of Paoli Presbyterian, a leadership group has begun meeting to initiate ecumenical efforts in two areas: Response to Disasters and Promoting Racial Reconciliation in our local communities.

Houston bathroomA sub-group on disasters has already planned four service trips (one week each) to flood-ravished communities in the Houston area. These trips are scheduled for March, April, June, and July of this year. They need several volunteers: Skilled leaders on each trip, plus other people ready to learn, as well as cooks to shop for and prepare team meals … and, good listeners to sit, pray and talk with homeowners and children. The other sub-group on racial reconciliation is also moving along with good ideas and has another meeting scheduled for early February.

Parishioners from Good Samaritan are not only welcome to join the relief efforts, but also to be part of the racial reconciliation planning group. The overall planning group is meeting Wednesday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at Paoli Presbyterian Church. Because Good Samaritan has been promoting these church unified efforts, the planning group hopes more people from Good Sam will become part of this group.
