Reflections on the 2018 Retreat
The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word “retreat” is: ME.
In other words, what’s in it for ME?
Quite frankly, I found that to be quite the opposite at last year’s retreat. As the emcee, my focus was not on ME, but YOU. In the process of encouraging and inspiring YOU, my desires (in this “ME FIRST” world) quickly faded away and were replaced with the joy of serving and loving others.
See, while I DID enjoy and learn from the speakers, my blessing came from making new friends and learning just how special the women at Good Samaritan are. It was my first time being in front of you and I wasn’t sure what to expect! Would you laugh at my jokes? Would you think I was over the top with my imitations of a Proverbs 31 Women? Well, what you thought did not matter because you SHOWED complete love and acceptance to this newcomer. We laughed, we cried, and we prayed together. It was a special time of sisters in Christ truly bonding with each other.
When it was over, I felt that I had made 80 new friends. That alone was worth going to the retreat!
If you attended last April, I know you felt the same. If you did not make it, I would encourage you to c’mon down to Ocean City, NJ in March. You’ll be encouraged, inspired and blessed! I look forward to meeting you and making you one of my NEW friends!
