Representatives from Two Supported Ministries Coming to Good Samaritan This Month
Through prayers and/or financial support, Good Samaritan supports over 25 local, regional, and world-wide ministries. Weekly, through these news articles and the Prayers of the People, we try to keep parishioners aware of what’s happening with each of these. Periodically, we are fortunate to be able to host representatives from some of these ministries and see them and hear first-hand of their work. This month (October) we are fortunate to host representatives from two ministries that we have long supported and been involved with.
On Sunday October 22, Emmanuel and Dorcus Chemengich, serving in Kenya, will be with us in the 9:00 (and perhaps the 11:00) service in the church. At 10:30, anyone interested will be able to hear from them and interact in a smaller group setting. Although the Chemengichs have been a part of many Kenyan programs we support, our main connection has been through the Mwamba Foundation. This non-profit foundation, which was organized in Philadelphia in 2000, seeks to transform lives of bright but needy high school students from poor families in Kenya. These mission news pages often show pictures of many of the students we as a church and as individuals support. Through partnerships with schools and clergy of the students’ home parishes, students are not only supported financially but spiritually.
Since Mawamba’s inception, the foundation is administered by two boards, one in the U.S. and one in Kenya. Stephanie Reid, who is part of the United States portion of Mawamba’s work and organization, will accompany the Chemengichs to Good Samaritan.
During the week of October 23rd, Tyson Malo of Niños con Valor in Bolivia will be in our area. Kevin Hicks has arranged an evening with Tyson on Tuesday, October 24 in Walton Hall from 6:30 – 9:00. The evening, with a potluck dinner – Kevin providing the main course – will feature time for interaction, learning, and hearing more from Tyson about Niños con Valor’s activities.
Often, Tyson is accompanied on these visits by a staff member or student from Niños. This visit, he will be traveling alone. We are one of his last stops on a visit to churches in North America. Many in our congregation are familiar with Niños con Valor and with Tyson. Several have made short-term missionary trips to Cochabamba, Bolivia, to work with Niños on various projects. (Cochabamba is also the town where another supported ministry is located: Tammy and Rusty Firestone with the La Trinidad Anglican Church in Cochabamba.)
For details about the evening – as well as needs for the potluck dinner, please contact Kevin Hicks: 610-764-8492 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, please RSVP to Kevin so they can make proper food and organizational plans.
Please pray for the safe travels for both Tyson Malo of Niños con Valor and Emmanuel and Dorcus Chemengich as they come to the United States and to Good Samaritan to share the news of their important ministries in Kenya and Bolivia.
