Rooted In Jesus in Butere, Kenya

Originally created in 2002, “Rooted in Jesus” (RinJ) is a group course in Christian discipleship written for use in Africa. It is the only material of its kind written especially for the use of ordinary African Christians, rather than translated from material developed for the West - where people face different problems and challenges in their Christian lives. Rooted in Jesus is supported by The Mathetes Trust, a UK registered charity, and endorsed by the Anglican Communion. The Church of the Good Samaritan has supported RinJ, originally by supporting Fr. Richard Morgan who served as the coordinator for a number of RinJ conferences. (On one such trip, Jeff Moretzsohn and Nicole Arthur accompanied Richard and served as leaders.) Richard led the initial conference in Butere. A year and a half ago, RinJ was added to the church’s portfolio of Supported Ministries. For detailed information on Rooted in Jesus, see their website.

Over a year ago, Rooted In Jesus conducted its introductory conference in the Diocese of Butere, Kenya. That conference was very encouraging in that it showed promise for the program to take hold, grow, and thrive. Recent follow-up conferences have indicted that indeed the program has taken hold and is changing many lives in the Butere Diocese. Recently, the editor of the RinJ materials, Rev'd Dr Alison Morgan, sent along a report describing all the positive work and accomplishments in Butere. That report is available here.
