Young Life Center City

For several years, Good Samaritan has provided financial support (and office space) for the YoungLife Western Suburbs. In 2019, we received an application for support from another YoungLife Club, this one in Center City Philadelphia. Although they are doing wonderful work for a population much different than that of YoungLife in the Suburbs, the Missions Committee felt it wanted to continue focusing its support for YoungLife to the local program we’ve been involved with. We did want to recognize the good work YoungLife Center City is doing, so we decided to provide a one-time gift of $1,500 as a token of our recognition of their work and that as a church we would hold them in prayer and keep our people aware of their work, challenges, accomplishments, and needs.

The young population this YoungLife club serves is much different than that served by our local YoungLife club. The Center City website says: “We are committed to reaching EVERY kid. Male, female, rich, poor, immigrant, incarcerated, homeless, middle school, high school, college, teen mothers, kids with disabilities, black, Hispanic, Asian, white, multi-racial, Indian, every color and race. We will strive to reach kids in Rittenhouse Square, Brewerytown, Fairmount, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Strawberry Mansion, Poplar, Old City, Chinatown, Washington Square and more.”

Kevin Chao, YoungLife’s Center City director writes, “The money that Good Samaritan donated has been put towards our ministry serving kids at People for People Charter School. The WyldLife team is using the funds to help pay for the pizzas we provide for students, for individual meals between leaders and students for discipleship purposes and for quality supplies for club meetings.”

Although as a missions committee, we are not providing financial support beyond the previously-mentioned one-time gift, anyone who wants to give to this YoungLife group can do so at the “Giving and Support” link on their website.
