Insight for Life: 1 Corinthians
Prosperity, diversity—and debauchery. Ancient Corinth? Paoli 2023? Or both?
Of course, Paul wasn’t thinking of Paoli today, but he wrote about struggles eternal to the human condition: worldliness, spiritual disunity, sexual sin, marriage, divorce. Paul also offered the Corinthians tools for success—clarity and healing in doctrinal disputes, and teaching on the spiritual gifts, what they were (and are) and how to use them.
Paul’s message was practical, meant to correct, guide, and encourage Christians to be alert, firm, mature, strong, and loving.
Above all, Paul sought to teach Christian love, modeled after Christ’s love for all human beings—unconditional and freely offered.
