Join us for week five of our Summer series with Rev’d Marcia Wilkinson teaching on 2 Samuel 6. 1 – 5, 12b – 19.
Dance and movement are not a natural part of the Episcopal tradition yet we at Good Sam are very grateful for Dance Choir who encourages us to praise and give thanksgiving to our Lord. Dance was a more natural part of Israelite worship yet David seems to have taken it to another level; dancing stripped down to his under garment. No royal heavy beautiful robes for him to interfere with his celebration. The ark was coming to Jerusalem and David’s kingship was going in a new direction. Political power and God’s power were coming together. We may ask the question: is David’s exuberance purely an expression of his joy and commitment to praise His Lord? Or, is he using this time in dance to demonstrate the power that has been given to him through Yahweh’s anointing of him as king? Maybe it is the authentic David where both aspects are true.
